Vessel

the vase

perches on the sill

warming in the sun

the wind blows

the vase rocks

tilts, falls, crashes—shatters

she picks it up, spreads it out

reassembling the pieces

a master puzzle

the vase is different now

its sparkle muted—a stagnant decoration

it will not hold water
